Abstract: The surface dead fuels of different time-lag were investigated in pest occurrence area and healthy area of Pinus massoniana forest.Moisture content was tested in the lab.The different time-lag of fuel loadswere analyzed.Pine moth increased the loads of surface dead fuel in Pinus massoniana forest.1h dead fuel and 10h dead fuel were increased by 174.7% and 113.5%,respectively.There is significant difference between pest occurrence area and healthy area of Pinus massoniana(p<0.05).The fuel load tends to balance after stand recovery period.1h dead fuel load and 10h dead fuel were increased by 41.6% and 16.7%.And there is no significant difference between pest occurrence area and healthy area of Pinus massoniana(p>0.05) forest. Therefore, insect outbreak can affect fire risk based on the surface dead fuel.
