Abstract: Based on the pilot work on sustainable forest managemnt, this paper focuses on the framework of sustainable forest management system and the approaches for developing such a system and suggests that good jobs shuld be done in building a platform, coordinating two relations, carrying out three activities and using well four mechanisms. Building a platform means that a forest resources management information system shall be established; coordinating two relations is that the relation between commercial forest management and their ecological management and the relation between public welfare forest protection and management shall be coordinated well, aiming at maximizing overall benefits of forests; Carrying out three activities indicates that county-level planning for sustainable forest management, forest management plan, diverse forest management practices and sustainable forest management technical system shall be developed; Using four mechanisms suggests that the market mechanism, the government readjustment mechanism, the internal mechanism of forest ecosystem and the forest property right mechanism shall be made good use of. Meanwhile, focusing on the realistic situation, the paper has a good look at several issues to be addressed in the pilot work on sustainable forest management.
