Abstract:

Based on the landsat5 TM data and local fire record information of the Greater Xing'an mountains from 1988 to 2009,the continuous fire spot data were obtained under the envi5.3 platform, and the dNBR index of fire spot data was established. The results showed that the number of forest fires and over-fire area in the Greater Xing'an mountains area increased from 1988 to 2009.Before the implementation of the Natural Forest Protection Project(NFPP) in 1998,the forest fires in the area were primarily low-intensity fires. After 1998,however,the ratio of low-intensity fires decreased significantly(P<0.05) while the high intensity fires increased significantly(P<0.01).The mean maximum temperature was positively correlated with high severity fire(P<0.05) but significant negative correlation with low intensity fire(P<0.05),monthly mean wind speed and high intensity fire showed a significant negative correlation,(P<0.05),there was a significant positive correlation with low intensity fire(P<0.05).From the results of this research we speculated that the implementation of the NFPP is the main driving force of the changed of fire severity.
