Based on the pilot work on sustainable forest managemnt, this paper focuses on the framework of sustainable forest management system and the approaches for developing such a system and suggests that good jobs shuld be done in building a platform, coordinating two relations, carrying out three activities and using well four mechanisms. Building a platform means that a forest resources management information system shall be established; coordinating two relations is that the relation between commercial forest management and their ecological management and the relation between public welfare forest protection and management shall be coordinated well, aiming at maximizing overall benefits of forests; Carrying out three activities indicates that county-level planning for sustainable forest management, forest management plan, diverse forest management practices and sustainable forest management technical system shall be developed; Using four mechanisms suggests that the market mechanism, the government readjustment mechanism, the internal mechanism of forest ecosystem and the forest property right mechanism shall be made good use of. Meanwhile, focusing on the realistic situation, the paper has a good look at several issues to be addressed in the pilot work on sustainable forest management.

The development of non-public forestry will be the key point of Chinese forestry in future. In view of a special region, exploration for high yielding, high quality and high efficiency management models has important guidance and practical significance to forestry development. On the basis of the investigation and study on non-public forestry development in Wangcang county,Sichuan province, the factors restricting non-public forestry development have been pointed out and comparative analysis carried out on the different existing management models from ecological, economic and social benefit aspects. According to the characteristics of the three different regions in this county, the paper selects or proposes new non-public forestry management models suitable for these three different regions, hoping to provide some reference and theoretical foundation to forestry development in this county and other areas having similar characteristics.

Zhejiang Province is rich in bamboo resources, and it’s bamboo industry is developed. It is a key bamboo—producing province in China. The sleet and snow disaster made this province's bamboo forest suffer heavy losses at the beginning of the year 2008,with the affected area covering 520 thousand hm2,which accounts for 66.4% of the bamboo forest’s total area ;Direct economic losses reach 3.6 billion yuan, occupying 37.7% of the forestry total losses. On the basis of th analysis on the sleet and snow disaster, the affected bamboo forest, people's life, ecological functions, secondary disaster are assessed;Secondly, analysis is also made on the disaster affects from the aspects of the elevation, the mixed forest and the pure forest, the age structure of bamboo forest, hooked top of bamboo trees, the forest land cultivation and use of herbicide, gradients and locations, etc. Finally disaster prevetion countermeasures are put forward.

Richard,Logistic,Korf,Mitscherlich,Schumacher,Weibull equations were used to simulate individual tree height growth of Pinus tabulaeformis plantation with different site indexes. The result showed that simulative precision of three parameters growth equations(Logistic,Weibull,Richard,Korf)were similar, and were significantly higher than those of the two parameters equation(Mitscherlich,Schumacher equation);Effect of site indexes on the progressive line parameters and shape parameters of the equation was significant.Individual tree height growth model of Pinus tabulaeformis plantations was constructed with the site indexes. The best forecast equation was the Logistic equation. Using some data of Pinus tabulaeformis plantation plot that are not used for building models to test, the result showed that the measured values and simulated values of height had no significant difference(p=0.6213>0.05).Therefore,the equation was able to predict accurately height growth of Pinus tabulaeformis plantation, and provide an important reference for Pinus tabulaeformis plantation management.

This study was performed by using dead branches and knot size analysis data of 50 sample trees in 10 sample plots for Larix olgensis Hengy plantations with different ages, different stand density and different sites. The data statistical analysis and matrixes and simulating technique are uses for analyzing and studying the distribution of the knot size along the stem. The models of predicting knot size were established. The results indicate: (1) the knot diameter increases with the knot height and reaches limit value at the tree crown base. The knot diameter can be described with Mitscherlich equation. (2) below 40% of the tree, the sound knot length increases along with the height of living locations of the knot, then the trend tends to decrease.(3) the loose knot length increases with the increasing of tree diameter at breast height and decreases with the increasing of knot angle.

Using Hegyi’ s competition index model for individual tree,we analyse the intraspecific and interspecific competition of Picea crassifolia in Liancheng National Nature Reserve of Gansu. The results show that intraspecific competition intensity of Picea crassifolia reduced with increase in diameter scale of the trees. The intraspecific competition is more bigger than interspecific competition. The order of competition intensity(CI)is:Picea crassifolia>Picea wilsonii>Acer tetramerum var.betulifolium>Populus davidiana>Betula albo-sinensis>Salix sp.The relationship between competition intensity and individual growth of objecttive tree follows closely the equation CI=AD-B.When the diameter scale reaches 45 cm,there is little change of competition intensity. The CI of Picea crassifolia has plus correlation with altitude and crown density.

The investigation was conducted from July to August in Saihanba Forest Farm in order to determine how the different factors of the larch plantation affect the plant diversity. On the basis of statistics of investigation data, effects of different factors on species richness, evenness and plant diversity were discussed. The results showed that altitude had significant positive correlation with S.Aspect had no relations withother factors.Slope had more significant positive correlation with D and Jsi than H and Jsw.The results demonstrated that the effects which were caused by slope were more sensitive to Simpson indexes.Density and cannopy density had more sensitive effects on Shannon-Wiener indexes than Simpson indexes.Age had significant positive correlation with S and H,but not Jsw.

By applying the FLAASH,ETM+ image of landscape district of Sun Yat-sen mausoleum was corrected for atmospheric effects to generate the apparent reflectance and the surface reflectance products. After applying the DN image, apparent reflectance image and surface reflectance image to calculate the NDVIs,the functional correlations were built between those NDVIs and forest volume with different functions. It was found that NDVI calculated from surface reflectance had the best correlation with forest volume and could truly show vegetation cover of surface.

The volume of timber is the main basis for nature determination and punishment of the forest cases such as illegal logging and its result must be sole. The data of the down timber to Pinus Massoniana Lamb,Cunninghamia lanceloate(Lamb.)Hook.and Populus Canadensis Moench.are used to calculate their volumes in different formula respectively, the results obtained are as follows:the volumes of sectional measurement formula with mid-section(n>5)are nearly equal to the exact ones and the appropriate error is smaller. So the volume is suitable to be sole as one of forest cases in the state of down timber.
